Earlier Vicky Kaushal was supposed to do the role that Dhanush had taken up
Bejoy Nambiar was supposed to give Dhanush his third Bollywood film with the remake of Mani Ratnam’s 1988 Tamil film Agni Natchathiram. Dhanush was supposed to star along with Harshvardhan Rane (Sanam Teri Kasam fame) in the film, where they were supposed to play warring step-brothers.

Now we learn from a leading daily that Bejoy Nambiar had put the film on back-burner, and is working on a Malayalam-Hindi bilingual. As per the daily, a source close to the film says, “Dhanush's look didn't work out as planned and his dates were clashing with previous commitments down South. The film has been put on the backburner till these issues are resolved.Bejoy has already moved on to another project, a Malayalam-Tamil bilingual. He is busy with the casting; this film should take off by October." Bejoy remained unavailable for comment.

Agni Natchathiram was the story of two half-brothers and how their relationship transformed with time. It had Prabhu and Karthik in lead roles. Earlier Vicky Kaushal was supposed to be the lead in the remake before Dhanush took over, and now the entire film is nearly shelved.
