Mahesh Babu may have delivered an average film last year, with Spyder, but that didn't dampen the excitement around his next. When it was announced that Mahesh Babu and Koratala Siva are teaming up again, fans were super thrilled. After delivering Srimanthudu, one of the biggest hits in Telugu, what do they have in-store this time? Some intriguing posters, a power-packed teaser and an epic trailer later, the movie has finally released worldwide. So what is Bharat Ane Nenu all about? Let's find out...
What's it about
Bharat Ane Nenu is about a man called Bharat, who is busy collecting degrees abroad because he wants to keep learning. But life takes an unexpected turn when his father, a high brow politician passes away, and he is expected to take charge as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He has no knowledge of his duties as the CM but he accepts the responsibility anyway. What nobody knew was that Bharat is not your run-of-the-mill CM, who lusts after power and position. He is all about taking charge and finding a solution for day-to-day problems. He is a minister, whose ultimate aim is to protect the people he is serving. The movie will chronicle the life of Bharat as a CM. Whether he ends up winning over people or sticks out like a sore thumb, is what forms rest of the story.
Mahesh Babu all the way. The minute he takes charge, he goes through a transformation. He is no longer your easy-going guy-next-door, but a minister with a vision. He fears nobody, and does what he thinks is right. He is a doer, right from the word go, who makes sure that solutions are implemented immediately. There is a quiet aggression about his character that is admirable. And he is not all talk. If you dare to mess with him, get ready to be beaten up to a pulp. The scene where he declares his name as 'Bharat Ane Nenu' is profound. However, Koratala Siva, at times, is only highlighting Mahesh's star aura, that only a fan would love. Nonetheless, it is refreshing to see the Telugu actor take on a role that he has never done before and do full justice to it. There is enough of both class and mass appeal in the film to keep everyone happy. Apart from the performances, the film is also a visual treat. Rich cinematography enhances the socio-political theme in an effective manner. The scene, where he takes oath as the CM, is defining and sets the tone for the rest of the film. Special mention for the background score that creates the right kind of drama. The folk lore song is a treat and does not distract you even though it comes up at an important juncture. Koratala Siva has remained faithful to Mahesh Babu's star power but he is also trying to narrate a story with substance. We have to admit, the Mahesh Babu-Koratala Siva combo is like that of Vijay-Atlee. These directors try to convey a meaningful tale but make sure to retain the actor's superstar persona.
The movie is three-hours long. At certain points, the plot just drags on. The romantic song was unnecessary. As usual, the build up to the plot twist is too long, and the revelation is over before you know it. The film could have been chopped a great deal to have greater impact.
What to do
It's not everyday that an actor takes charge to play a formidable CM. For Mahesh Babu, you can give this a shot.
