He is one of the most interesting and vocal actors in Kollywood
There are many actors in the Tamil film industry who have a huge fan following of a certain section of society. Actors like Vijay have a mass appeal, whereas Ajith Kumar attracts a classier crowd. But the actor who is a youth icon in Kollywood is actor Silambarasan or Simbu as he is popularly known. Through his movies and activities on and off the screen, he has established himself as the voice of youngsters in Tamil Nadu. And as STR turns an year older, here is a look at 7 lesser known facts about the actor that are highly interesting:
Most of us have seen Simbu on the silver screen in 2002 with Kadhal Azhivathillai. But the relation between STR and cinema goes way back. In fact, he made his debut when he was just an infant in 1984 with his father's film Uravai Kaatha Kili. He had worked as a child artist in a lot of movies which were directed by his father.
The tabloids and gossip mills have always loved Simbu. He has been linked with a lot of famous women and many of them have ended in controversies. Back in 2004, he was linked up with actress Trisha. Later on, his name was attached to Aishwarya Rajinikanth. It is alleged that the Superstar had searched for an alliance and married her to actor Dhanush because of these rumors. Of course everyone knew of his relationship with actress Nayanthara which ended in a rather bad note. His latest linkup was with Aranmanai 2 actress Hansika Motwani which ended about a year ago. Our birthday boy is quite a ladies man.
Singer and Lyricist
STR is a deadly combo of acting, singing and songwriting. He is quite similar to his father T.Rajendran in that respect. He has sung frequently as a playback singer in many of his own movies. Not only singing, he had also written lyrics for many songs and worked with music composer Yuvan Shanka Raja.
The actor is a brand ambassador for Pepsico India's soft drink 7 UP in Tamil Nadu. He has featured in many ads and dance contests promoting the product.
Actor Silambarasan is a huge self confessed fan of actor Ajith Kumar. In fact, Thala has been one of the greatest influences in his life. He even took to Twitter one day when Ajith fans trolled Vijay on his birthday and requested them not to resort to such low levels and taint Ajith's name.
Rivalry with Dhanush
STR and Dhanush were both rivals for the longest time. Both were launched around the same time and tensions between them mounted in 2004 after the movie Manmadhan was released which mocked Dhanush in a subtle manner. Later on, when the song Why This Kolaveri Di was becoming popular from Dhanush starrer 3, Simbu released a promo for a news song called the Love Anthem. However, the two stars finally reconciled their differences in 2012 and they even celebrated the VIP star's birthday together.
Little Superstar and STR
Back in his child artist days, Simbu did a song where he referred to himself as Little Superstar, after which that was his nickname for the longest time. However, after 2010, he dropped the title and made a new nickname for himself as STR. He urged his fans to address him as STR and the name has stuck ever since.
As the man turns 33, we wish him all the success and hope that his films Achcham Yenbathu Madaimayada and Idhu Namma Aalu become huge hits.
