As the India's celebrated superstar turns 65, we take a look at what 2016 has in store for Rajnikanth

Style and charisma on the big screen made him a superstar. Simplicity and humbleness in real life made him a role model for generations of youngsters. Be it reel or real life, Rajinikanth has always mesmerised his fans and well wishers.

Be it Malaysia or Japan - he has massive fan following all over the world. India's quintessential style icon turns 65 today. While Rajinikanth has urged fans not to celebrate his birthday to express solidarity to people of flood affected Chennai, we couldn't help but get excited about what's in store for Thalaiva in 2016.

Last few years haven't been too great for Rajinikanth. Despite tremendous hype, his last two films Kochadaiiyaan and Lingaa failed at box office. Rajinikanth had to pay from his pocket to compensate the loss faced by distributors. In fact, his last hit film was Enthiran way back in 2010. One couldn't help but feel that Rajinikanth is losing his number one spot in Kollywood. And at the same time Ajith's popularity rose to new heights this year, making him the box office king of 2015.

But all that is set to change next year as Thalaiva has two very exciting films line up. Lets take a look at both the films and analyse why these films will work wonder for Rajinikanth.

Kabali

Rajinikanth surprised everyone when he signed Kabali with relatively new but talented director Pa Rajinth. It seemed like Rajini needed a break from his usual larger than life films and so he decided to experiment. The first look of the film dazzled everyone as Rajini rocked in salt n pepper hairdo with white beard and moustache. While it is very exciting to see Rajini playing an older character, it also reminds me of his memorable roles in Basha and Padayyappa where he played of older characters with so much style and panache. Radhika Apte is playing his wife and Dhansikaa is playing Rajini's daughter in the film. In Kabali, Rajinikanth is playing an ageing gangster who is on the pursuit of his kidnapped daughter. The film is all set to release on April 2016, and has enough elements to become the much needed hit film for Rajini. Fans would be go berserk seeing Rajini's older avatar in Kabali.

Enthiran 2

After Kabali, Rajinikanth has sure shot blockbuster lined up in the form Enthiran 2. The sequel to director Shankar's Enthiran is all set to go on floors next year. We all know that Enthiran was Rajinikanth's biggest hit and so its sequel is going to be one of the most anticipated release of 2016. Shankar - Rajini combo have 100 % success rate with both Sivaji and Enthiran turning out to be mind boggling money spinners. Apart from Shankar's magical directorial touch, the film might also star Hollywood legend Arnold Schwarzenegger as the baddie. Amy Jackson has been roped in to play Rajini's heroine in the film. While the star cast looks WOW on paper, we hear that Enthiran 2 might be made at a very large scale and can also beat Baahubali to become the most expensive Indian film. With a big ticket flick like Enthiran 2 up his sleeve, Rajinikanth is sure to take box office by storm next year.

The buzz around Kabali and Enthiran 2 is huge, and these two films are Rajini's best shot to regain the top spot in Tamil film industry.
