Black Panther is mauling everything that's coming in its way, as far as the box office numbers are concerned. It has become yet another example of why Bollywood should avoid clashing with a superhero film on its own turf. Now the film has started targeting other superhero flicks and the first victim is Wonder Woman. Chadwick Boseman's film has already earned Rs 25.31 crore in four days, which is more than the lifetime collections of Gal Gadot's superhero turn. The latter had earned Rs 16.50 crore in its entire run.
Interestingly, both Wonder Woman and Black Panther bust a lot of myths. Gal Gadot became the female superhero who earned potloads of money at the box office. Also, it was the first time a female (Patty Jenkins) had directed a superhero film. That itself had made watching Wonder Woman such an enriching experience. In fact, there is so much to learn from that movie. Unlike regular superhero flicks, where the actor's love interest is only used as a romantic angle, Chris Pine in Wonder Woman was more than just that. His role was not limited to being just a love interest. In Black Panther, too, Lupita Nyong'o has been shown as a rebel and someone who can actually be a value addition to King Wakanda's empire. Thus both the films have managed to break free of a lot of stereotypes. (Also read: CBFC mutes the word 'Hanuman' from Black Panther and Twitterati knows why)
Guess that's why Black Panther is getting so much love at the Indian box office. The film has already defeated Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Irona man 3, Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, Deadpool and many more by earning a whopping $201mn at the box office in the opening weekend in the US.
