Mahesh Bhatt and Bhushan Kumar's master-plan of coming up with the second installment of 1990's musical blockbuster Aashiqui turned out to be a game-changer not only for them, but also for its lead stars. 2013's Aashiqui 2 was one of the most profitable films of that year, and it relaunched the careers of Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor. Soon after that, there was news about Aashiqui 3 featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt. In fact, in April 2016, Sidharth had confirmed the project and said, “Aashiqui 3 has lots of angst, love and music… Mohit wants me to sing. Maybe Alia and I can sing a duet, that’d be a first for an actor and an actress who debuted together.”
But after that, there was no progress on this front. But finally, it now seems there is a green signal and we might soon get the official announcement about Aashiqui 3. A source told Mumbai Mirror, “Aashiqui is special for Bhushan as it’s among the most successful romantic franchises. Like the earlier two films, this one too will be a musical, with an intense love story in its backdrop.” Interestingly, one more 90s film will be turned into a franchise by T-Series — Aamir Khan and Pooja Bhatt's 1991 musical romantic venture, Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin. “It’s another simplistic musical love story, a genre that has taken a backseat. Both films will take off when things get back to normal,” added the source.
Bhushan Kumar confirmed the news and told the tabloid, “Yes, Aashiqui and Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin are great franchises to take forward. Both films were big hits back in the day and it’s a great responsibility to carry my father’s legacy forward.” So, have you thought of any new leads for the second part of Dil Hai Ke Manta Nahin?
