Bollywood News: Dhanush in 2019, confirmed that he will be reuniting with his Raanjhanaa director Aanand L Rai for another film. Further developments suggested that while Sara Ali Khan will play the female lead, actor Hrithik Roshan will also be a part of the project. However, as per the official announcement, it is not Hrithik but Akshay Kumar who has been roped in for the project. Aanand's upcoming film titled Atrangi Re will now star the three actors making this a casting coup. The movie marks the first outing of Akshay and Sara with Rai.
While talking about Atrangi Re, Akshay Kumar in a statement told Bombay Times, "I am thrilled to be working with Aanand L Rai, as I have always admired the way he has showcased his stories. When he narrated the film to me, I said ‘yes’ within 10 minutes. It is a challenging character to play, but at the same time, it is such a special role that my heart just couldn’t say ‘no’ to it. I will remember it for the rest of my life. My combination with Sara and Dhanush truly makes it true to its title — Atrangi! And I know that Aanand, in his special and simple way of storytelling, will only add magic to it. As I said, my heart just couldn’t let this one go."
On the other hand, director Aanand is elated with Kumar's involvement in the project. "It takes a secure actor like Akshay to do such a role. He has been pushing the envelope and is always up for challenges." Talking about Dhanush and Sara's pairing the director said, "Their pairing is interesting and exciting. Fans will love the freshness these two will bring on the big screen."
The film goes on floors from March 2020.
