Two days ago, we came across yet another tragic news of 2020, when actor Asif Basra who worked in numerous Bollywood films was found hanging at a private complex in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. Reportedly, Asif had been staying at the Jogiwara Road, Dharamshala for the last five years now. It is said that he committed suicide. The reason as to what could lead the actor to take the tragic step may now be never known. Emraan Hashmi, who shared the screen with Asif in Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai, a decade ago, opened up on the tragic demise of his costar in an interview with ETimes. "I am extremely shocked. We have lost so many actors this year. Add this to the several miseries 2020 has brought. What a grief-stricken year!" the actor said.
Emraan reminiscent that Asif seemed positive and easy to get along with person. "I had kept in touch with Asif over text messages after the film and then we bumped into each other a couple of times. I followed his work. He was a very good actor. I loved him in 'Hichki' and 'Paatal Lok'. I will never forget the scene I shot with him and Randeep Hooda for 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai' at Yari Road. It was a jail shot," he said.
"Asif had a very sunny disposition, he was a very chilled out guy. He had a very captivating face. You could make out he was a nice person," the actor added. This tragic turn of events has left Emraan with the thought that one can never know a person completely. "You can't know how people react to things and what has actually happened. You can never know everything about any person, howsoever close you might be to him/her," he added before signing off.
Over the years, Asif Basra has been seen in films like Jab We Met, Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai, Black Friday, Kai Po Che and others. He is also a known face on the OTT platform. He was last seen in Paatal Lok and Hostages. No statement from the family of the actor has been released as of yet.
