Talking about Satya, the film was a crime-drama directed by Ram Gopal Varma. It was written by Saurabh Shukla and Anurag Kashyap. Apart from Manoj, the film also starred J.D. Chakravarthy, Urmila Matondkar, Saurabh Shukla, Shefali Shah, Paresh Rawal, Govind Namdev, Makrand Deshpande to name a few.

Earlier, in an interview, Manoj shared an interesting trivia about the film. "While I was preparing for the film, I had thought mine was the titular role. But as the story took shape I learned I was to play Bhikhu Mhatre and that Satya was going to someone else." The actor went on to reveal that he was very disappointed but in retrospect understood that it was best suited for him.

"After Satya, I was flooded with offers. Producers lined my house – but they wanted me to play the villain or the heroine’s brother. Films like Satya just weren’t being made," he added.

Satya is an immigrant who comes to Mumbai in search of a job. He is thrown into jail for a crime that he did not commit. He delves deeper into the crime world as he befriends, Bhiku Mhatre. After serving his sentence, Satya meets a beautiful woman and he falls in love with her. But she hates criminals. Satya hides his identity from her and ultimately has to bear the brunt of being connected to the underworld.
