Anniversary special: When a hush-hush London holiday became a scandalous gossip and forced Amitabh Bachchan-Jaya Bhaduri to admit ‘haan humko mohabbat hai’

Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan complete 48 years of marriage today, 3rd June. Their marriage has seen it all, details of which have also been splashed across the media. The couple's marriage has withstood every obstacle thrown at it though and stood the test of time. Now, since it's Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri's wedding anniversary, why not we revisit one of their happiest memories, which also happens to be one of their earliest memories together in this case, making for a fantastic 'Throwback Thursday' trivia piece. It's basically the story of how the two iconic Bollywood actors ended up tying the knot when all they had intended to do was merely celebrate the critical and commercial success of their movie, Zanjeer.

As most know by now, Zanjeer, directed by Prakash Mehra, and written by the legendary scriptwriting duo of Salim-Javed (Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar), was Amitabh Bachchan's first hit (Jaya already had hits before and was a bigger star at the time). The two had gotten friendly prior to the movie's shoot, and this grew into love while on the sets of Zanjeer.

To celebrate the success of the movie and also spend some much-needed time together, in their ‘just fallen in love’ phase, Big B and Jaya Bachchan had decided to take trip to London, but it was the former's father, noted late poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, who insisted that they get married before vacationing together as he felt it wouldn't have been right otherwise (just remember, times were different before anybody turns this into a social-justice crusade), and Amitabh being the dutiful son that he was, obeyed his father. So their London holiday inadvertently turned into their London honeymoon.

While the above story is not known to many, we can guarantee that the one we're about to reveal now is hardly known to anyone. A source close to Amitabh Bachchan discloses that not many knew he and Jaya had gotten hitched, and when they were spotted together in London, the few Indian publications in the city wrote some pretty scandalous articles about Jaya Bhaduri (the name she was known by back then), who was a star at the time, holidaying with an upcoming actor like Amitabh Bachchan, after which the couple had no choice but to go public with their marriage announcement.

That was just one of the interesting chapters from their early life together, we are sure they have many more such memorable moments and there will be more to come. BollywoodLife wishes Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan a very happy marriage anniversary.
