The family comedy is slated to hit screens on September 4
Anees Bazmee's upcoming romcom, Welcome Back, which stars John Abraham, Shruti Haasan, Anil Kapoor, Nana Patekar and Paresh Rawal in pivotal roles, has been cleared by the Censor Board Of Film Certification with a U/A certificate. However, the Board has demanded a "few" cuts... 15 to be more precise and all of verbal nature (vulgar and/or offensive language).
Confirming the news to a leading entertainment portal, the director said, "The cuts the censor board has asked for are all verbal...words like saala have been asked to be deleted, which we've happily done. However, some other cuts, we're trying to explain to the censor board why the words are there. Every member of the censor board knows my films don't have any double meanings and vulgar dialogues. So many cuts seem a little extreme." We agree, because if words like 'saala' are causing an issue, then it definitely is extreme.
The film, which originally amounted to 170 minutes was already reduced to 153 minutes before sending it to the CBFC for certification. Now with 15 more cuts, it is likely to reduce by a considerable amount of time.
The film's release has already been jeopardised due to the non-payment of remunerations by producer Firoz Nadiadwala to Anees and Anil. Reportedly the producer owes Rs 4 crores to the Anees and around Rs 4-5 crores to Kapoor. The director and actor then took the case to the film federation and threatened to stall the release. We wonder if the Boards demand will further cause troubles in the film's release on September 4.
