Young Ashoka jumps off a cliff only to return as a revenge-driven Chand Ashoka post a ten year leap.
The show Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat has had a leap of ten years, and the grand entry of actor Mohit Raina as Chand Ashoka took place today. It was as we expected, a spectacular build-up to the point where Mohit was introduced. And he looked as breath-taking as the preview stills that we had been watching till now. The transition of the young fit Ashoka (Siddharth Nigam) to a muscular drop dead Chand is not very surprising as that's what you would expect him to grow up to become. The fire of revenge that the young Ashoka had is well reflected in Chand's gaze as well.
The episode starts with young Ashoka running away from a tribal who has been sent by Sushim. Kaurwaki (Reem Sheikh) has accompanied him. But somehow he convinces her that she has to part ways with him for their safety. She does so unwillingly, but as soon as Ashoka leaves, she is captured back by the palace guards and taken back home. Ashoka keeps fleeing from the tribal and bumps into his mother Rani Dharma (Pallavi Subhash) carrying his younger baby brother. He questions her on why she has followed him, to which she says that she cannot live away from him and watch him suffer. But Ashoka notices that his mother has been hurt and make her tell him that Sushim kicked her while she was leaving the palace to find Ashoka. This angers Ashoka and he vows to take revenge. But Rani Dharma stops him and makes him swear that he will never set foot on the soil of Pataliputra without her permission. If he does, she and his brother will be dead. Not left with much choice, Ashoka, Rani Dharma and the baby keep running away, but are cornered by the tribal. Unable to find a way out, the two along with the baby jump off a cliff into a river.
Everyone at the palace thinks that they are dead. King Dharmasara even issues a public announcement for the same. However, Kaurwaki refuses to believe and says that as long as the light in my room burns, Ashoka will be alive and we will meet again.
As Ashoka emerges alive from the river, vows out loud that he will not let his wounds heal so that he is reminded all his life that he has to get back all that was taken away from him. He has to avenge his guru's killers, fulfill his mother’s dreams and defeat the traitor Sushim. He swears that he will rule the whole of undivided India.
On the other hand, the track goes into flashback, where Helena and Maharani Charumitra are seen conspiring. Helena is behind bars, but tell Charumitra that if she pretend to die, the blame will come on Ashoka and he will be made to leave the kingdom. This will safeguard Charumitra's children and so she agrees to the plan. The current track resumes showing how Sushim, Maharani Charumitra and others fetch Helena back from the coffin. They report to her that Ashoka, Rani Dharma and the baby are dead. They rejoice but as they disclose to her that the dead bodies have not yet been found, Helena expresses her anger. She tells them that Ashoka can easily fight death and it is her firm belief that he will return. They just have to wait for a few years.
After the ten years leap, a stone quary is shown. Workers are being treated a like slaves in order to get them working faster. Stones are being carved to build castles in the Maurya kingdom. These stones are being transported by a rickety bridge, which breaks and several workers are left hanging to die. One of the workers' wife rushes to Chand who is known for his fierce courage to face any trouble on the face of earth. But he turns her away saying that she can pray to God but he won't help. To this, she asks him what is her baby's fault who will be orphaned if his father dies. Chand is then reminded of his father.
The precap shows a glimpse of the grown up Kaurwaki (Saumya Seth) who has become a warrior. Chand is shown ask his mother when he can step back in Pataliputra. But she refuses to let him take that step. This angers him.
All in all, it was a great build up to the entry of Chand Ashoka. Mohit Raina makes for an awe-inspiring Chand Ashoka, and his expressions match the intensity with which Siddharth Nigam had played the part. One does wonder how Chand and his mother are dressed in such rich clothing even after being away from the palace for ten years. But we are sure that answers to some questions will come in the following episodes.
We can't wait to see the anger and hatefulness of Chand in the episodes to come. We are also curious about the childhood lovebirds' meeting. We are talking about Ashoka and Kaurwaki of course! So, stay tuned for future developments on Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat...
