Two important actors have been reportedly signed to play pivotal roles in Mani Ratnam's next multi-starrer which is likely to start rolling soon. Cheenu Mohan, who rose to fame with his superb performance in Karthik Subbaraj's multi-starrer emotional drama Iraivi, and is playing the role of a politician in Vetrimaaran - Dhanush's North Chennai-set drama Vada Chennai, has been signed by Mani Ratnam.
The other actor is the breakout Malayalam star Antony Varghese, who delivered a terrific performance in 2017's indie hit Angamaly Diaries. Sources say Cheenu Mohan was signed a few days back and Antony Varghese is yet to be officially signed for the film.
Starring Simbu, Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi, Arvind Swami, Jyotika and Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead roles, this yet-untitled film will have music composed by AR Rahman, a long-standing regular collaborator of Mani Ratnam. A few days back, actor Vijay Sethupathi, who is teaming up with Mani Ratnam for the first time in his career, said, "Everyone is reporting that I'm doing a cameo role in the film. It's not true. I'm playing a proper character in the movie. I'm really looking forward to working with Mani sir."
Mani Ratnam's last outing Kaatru Veliyidai, which starred Karthi and Aditi Rao Hydari as leads, bombed at the box-office and the veteran would be raring to prove his mettle at the box-office this time. The movie has lyrics by Vairamuthu, who had already started the composing session for the film with Rahman and Ratnam a few weeks back in Goa.
