Here's what a review on Sify had to say - Aruvi basically throws a lot of questions on the modern society, how materialist everyone’s life has become because of rich businessmen and how we tend to forget the basic essence of love and compassion. What is really impressive about Arun’s style of filmmaking is that he exactly knows where to whip, where to tickle, where to tug your heart and where to make you smile. At the end, we leave the movie hall with great satisfaction.
While Aruvi taking on the top position doesn't come as a surprise, but the fact that Maayavan took the thrid place depsite fairly positive reviews was unexpected. Star Wars: The Last Jedi was actually the no 2! According to Sreedhar pillai, the footfalls were low this time owing to RK Nagar by poll elections. . He also pointed to Aruvi being the big surprise film - Footfalls were low, especially North Madras areas due to RKNagarby-elections. The big surprise was the huge success of Aruvi, which started slowly but due to super WOM & promotions, cashed in on Sat & Sun and will sail through.
