Deepika Padukone plays the role of an acid attack survivor in her next Chhapaak, which is based on the life of Laxmi Agarwal. For the Meghna Gulzar directorial, DP decided to take up a social experiment in order to know how people react to acid attack survivors. As a part of this experiment, Deepika stepped out on the streets of Mumbai as Malti (her character from Chhapaak) with few acid attack survivors. She visited a mobile store, a supermarket, an accessories shop and a local clothes market to see people's reaction. There were certain people who gave awkward glances and refused to help Deepika Padukone and other survivors. On the other hand, there were generous people who helped them and did not feel awkward around them at all. Their reactions were captured in the hidden cameras which were placed across various locations in the city.
Towards the end of the video, which is shared by DP on her Instagram handle, the actress can be heard saying, "After spending the entire day, we realised that some things are right in front of us but we can't see them. It is important to change the perspective." Sharing the same video on her social media handle, Deepika wrote, "Chhapaak social experiment. Be the change you want to see... A social experiment by team Chhapaak."

A few days ago, when we met Chhapaak's director Meghna Gulzar for a chat, she revealed Laxmi Agarwal's reaction to the final cut of Chhapaak. "Laxmi has seen the film. She has watched the final cut which is offline. Before going into the final process, we needed to show her the movie. She is very happy with it and loves how it has turned out. I am waiting to show her the finished product with the gridded picture, sound, place, background music and all of that. It is going to be a memory I will cherish," she said.
