Aamir Khan was to play the lead in late music magnet Gulshan Kumar’s biopic, which was to be co-produced by his son Bhushan Kumar. However, the PK actor decided to disassociate from the film after it was revealed that the Mogul's director Subhash Kapoor was involved in a #MeToo controversy. However, Bhushan Kumar has shared an update about the project, which will also involve Aamir Khan.
In an interview with Indian Express, Bhushan Kumar stated that Aamir is still on board as the film’s co-producer, but refused to divulge if he will play the lead. He said, “I can’t say anything about it right now. Now, I am very comfortable about it because I know the film is happening and with the best person who looks (laughs) like my father. There is no ambiguity in that. So, I am very happy about that.”
Bhushan Kumar revealed that the lead actor of the film will be announced in July. “It’s an important and an emotional film for us and that is why it is taking time. We want to make it the best. I am not in a hurry for it because it is not a commercial film for me. Whatever comes, I will have to donate it. That is our family’s thought process since the beginning. We will be announcing the actor very soon. That actor definitely needs seven-eight months to adapt into it. The film will start somewhere in 2020,” said the head honcho of T-series.
Back in 2017, Gulshan Kumar had announced the biopic with Akshay Kumar in the lead. However, the actor soon dropped out of the project. Speaking about the controversy, Bhushan Kumar added, “Whatever happened, it happened for the good. I have nothing against anyone. We are working on two-three films with Akshay ji. Whatever miscommunication was there has also gotten cleared. Everything is in a positive space now.”
The team of Mogul is planning to release the film in 2021.
