It was reported last year that Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro's 2015 film, The Intern, is going to get an official Hindi remake which will have Deepika Padukone and Rishi Kapoor in the lead. However, due to Kapoor's untimely demise, the movie was put on hold. A few weeks ago it was reported suggest that Amitabh Bachchan is in talks to step into the shoes of his friend Rishi Kapoor for the role. It has now been confirmed that Amitabh has officially replaced Rishi in The Intern remake.
Deepika took to Instagram to confirm the news and welcome Big B on board. Sharing the first poster of their upcoming film, she wrote, "What an absolute honour to be collaborating with one of my most special co-star again! Welcoming @amitabhbachchan to the Indian adaptation of #TheIntern."
This is Deepika and Amitabh's second collaboration after Shoojit Sircar's 2015 comedy drama Piku. The two played the roles of father-daughter duo in the film.
The Intern remake, which is an Indian adaptation of the Hollywood comedy hit by the same name, is jointly produced by Deepika and Sunir Kheterpal under their banners Ka Productions and Azure Entertainment respectively. It will be directed by Amit Sharma. The movie was initially scheduled for 2021 release. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the film has now been pushed for release in Summer 2022.

On the work front, Deepika will be seen in 83 as Romi Dev. The film traces Kapil's captaincy in leading the Indian cricket team to defeat the West Indies in the World Cup final in 1983. Ranveer Singh will essay Kapil's role in the film, directed by Kabir Khan. She has also been shooting for Shakun Batra's upcoming and untitled film which is touted to be a relationship drama. It also stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday in lead roles. The details of the film are kept under wraps.
Big B, on the other hand, has started filming for Vikas Bahl's directorial, Goodbye, which also stars South sensation Rashmika Mandanna in the lead. He will be next seen in Rumy Jafry's upcoming crime thriller, Chehre, which also stars Rhea Chakraborty, Annu Kapoor, Krystle D'Souza, Dhritiman Chatterjee, Raghubir Yadav and Siddhanth Kapoor. The movie was scheduled to release on April 9 but due to the fresh surge in Covid-10 cases across the country. the film has been postponed until further notice.
