He has been on a whirlwind tour promoting Shamitabh for Bollywood and Anegan for Kollywood. Dhanush hasn’t had much respite these last few weeks but he’s been enjoying every single moment!
While many actors from the south have tried to make in-roads into the Hindi film industry very few have succeeded – and even fewer have been able to sustain a career or deliver hits. Dhanush is the exception – he is the first south Indian actor who has been able to break the north-south divide (read Bollywood jinx) and be recognised as a pan-Indian actor. Though Kolaveri Di might have started him off on this journey, it was Anand L Rai’s Raanjhanaa and now R Balki’s Shamitabh that have cemented his place in Bollywood. He worked hard to learn Hindi, spent more time in Mumbai learning the ropes and ensured that he gave it 200% to his directors there.Actors including Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith, Suriya, Ram Charan and Rana Dagubatti have made their way to the Hindi film industry. Only Rana however seems to find a passion for Hindi cinema while the others prefer being top stars in the south. Most south actors – be in men or women – have repeatedly stated that they prefer to work in the south because they are seen as newcomers in Mumbai and it’s difficult to get a good break. If their first film in Hindi flops then it’s even more difficult to get a second chance.
Many top south actors, in fact, have recognised and applauded Dhanush for his feat. Actress Tamannaah, who considers Dhanush as one of her favourite co-stars, had said in an interview that the actor has broken the south jinx in Bollywood. Actor Vijay sent him a bouquet when he won the Filmfare Award for Best Debut in Hindi and praised his acting.
Now with Shamitabh, where he shares screen space with the legend Amitabh Bachchan, Dhanush seems to have pulled off quite a coup. Despite all the compliments coming his way he still remains humble and wants to work even harder. Dhanush recently also stated that he would look at producing Hindi films too. As a successful producer in the Tamil film industry, it looks like he wants to take his expertise to Bollywood too.
As the audience is eagerly looking forward to both Shamitabh and Anegan, Dhanush has signed on another romantic Hindi film with Anand L Rai and will begin work on that soon. He also played a cameo in Madhavan-Kangana Ranaut’s Tanu Weds Manu 2.
While promoting Shamitabh recently, director R Balki said the Dhanush-Amitabh Bachchan relationship was physics and Dhanush-Akshara Haasan chemistry. We think the Dhanush-Bollywood relationship is all soul while the Dhanush-Kollywood relationship is all heart. Here’s wishing him luck!
