After outcry by members of the Women in Cinema Collective (WCC), AMMA President Mohanlal confirmed that Dileep has resigned from the actors’ body of Malayalam cinema. Mohanlal, in the recent press meet, said that he asked Dileep to resign from AMMA since he is accused in the Malayalam actress assault case. Reports are also doing rounds that Mohanlal had removed Dileep from AMMA after an outcry from WCC in the recent press meet held in Thiruvananthapuram. And few reports claim that Dileep voluntarily stepped up to resign from AMMA owing to the pressure from WCC in the Malayalam actress assault case. Mohanlal and other executive members of AMMA have been tight-lipped on this issue except revealing that Dileep’s resignation has been accepted by AMMA after he resigned more than a week ago. Dileep was removed from AMMA after Kerala police arrested him in the Malayalam actress assault case after finding irrefutable evidence against the actor. As soon as the arrest took place, Dileep’s membership in AMMA was revoked by AMMA but was reinstated by the actors’ association after he came out of the jail on bail.
Mohanlal also said that AMMA is disinclined towards reinstating the membership of the actresses who resigned from the association – Rima Kallingal, Remya Nambeesan and Geethu Mohandas. The veteran actor said that they will have to apply for the membership again to join back AMMA. "If they wish to come back to AMMA, they will have to apply again. There are procedures to be followed," Mohanlal was quoted as saying by a leading Malayalam daily.
