DCEU's finally got it right with Wonder Woman. The film has become a worldwide phenomenon and as it grossed a record breaking estimated $103 million at US box office and $122.5 million in overseas for a huge $225.6 million global figures. The two major reasons for film's unprecedented success can be credited to film's director Patty Jenkins and of course its lead, the gorgeous, ever charming and super talented, Gal Gadot.
For me, Wonder Woman majorly worked because of the presence of Gal Gadot, she just too perfect. She is indeed the Goddess, the 'Wonder' Woman. But did you know, she was not the popular choice for the role. In fact director Patty Jenkins wasn't too keen on casting her as the Amazon Princess and when Warner Bros. signed her for the role, her 'heart sank'! Talking to Playboy, when she was asked if she was happy with Gal's casting as she inherited her from Zack Snyder, she revealed, "I wouldn’t have done the project if I had even the slightest problem with it. That’s how important casting is. I remember when I read in the news that Wonder Woman had been cast and my heart sank. I had been talking to the studio for so long about doing it and I was like well “that’s that.” I’m sure we wouldn’t have made the same choice. And then I started paying attention to her, and watching her and looking at her and it was just unbelievable. Frankly, I think they did a better job than I could have because I don’t know that I would have scoured the earth as hard to find her. I don’t know that I would’ve looked internationally. I would have just looked for an American girl. The fact that they found Gal and chose her is a magical gift to me. They’re incredibly intelligent people and they were looking for all the same things I would have looked for—all the values that Wonder Woman stands for exuding from someone in an honest way, and boy did they find it. She’s the greatest." Also read: Wonder Woman movie review: Gal Gadot's goddess act is sure to win your hearts in this near perfect superhero flick
BollywoodLife in its review of Wonder Woman said, "Wonder Woman ‘the film’ is to DCEU what Wonder Woman ‘the superhero’ was to Batman and Superman in the climax of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice; ‘The Saviour’. The film works for its performances from its lead cast and mainly for the godly Gal Gadot. Hats off to the director Patty Jenkins for showcasing an untapped side to a superhero genre. The film will make you laugh, cheer, excited and will eventually leave a lump in your throat. If not for anything watch it just for Gal Gadot. She indeed is a ‘Wonder’ Woman. This one just saved the sinking ship of DCEU. Highly recommended!"
