Read on to find out what the South actor has to say about celebrating his birthday...
Kamal Haasan, who brought in his 61st birthday yesterday, doesn’t believe in birthday parties with balloons, candles and masti. He rather believes in having a simple celebration and giving back something to the community rather than accepting gifts. And the most surprising part is that he hadn't held a birthday party till he was five years old. Why? Well, there is a very interesting story behind it.
As the star himself tells us, “In our family we never celebrate birthdays normally. My mother never made any fuss over my birthdays because my father was 50, when I was born. So they were trying to hide my age, perhaps. The very first time I celebrated my birthday was when my elder brother’s wife, my bhabhi celebrated it when I was five. I was very embarrassed by all the attention.”
Kamal also reveals that his fans do all the celebrations and not him. He says. “Every year it is blood donation day on my birthday. We are the largest private organiser of eye and organ donation camps. Besides this, my fan clubs generate their own resources to help the needy. They are currently reconstructing a school in my place of birth, Paramakudi. Every penny that my fans spend on my birthday is accounted for.”
Isn't that very nice? He has such a huge and loyal following, still he is grounded and wants to give back things to the poor. Currently, the star is awaiting the release of his upcoming Tamil film, Thoongavanam.
