Earlier today at around 3:15 am in the morning veteran actress Reema Lagoo passed away. She was only 59. The reason behind her sad demise is said to be a sudden cardiac arrest she suffered. While she has been missing from the big screen for quite a some time now, for all the 90s kids she is most remembered as Salman Khan's mother in various superhit films. Be it Maine Pyar Kiya, Judwaa and Hum Saath Saath Hain etc.
For many she remains the quintessential Bollywood mother, a perfect example of how a mother should be. But interestingly she was not that aged, she was shown to be on the big screen. Did you know there wasn't much of an age difference between her and her onscreen sons, be it Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Shah Rukh Khan etc. Also read: Remembering Reema Lagoo by her 5 best roles through the years
In fact here's the interesting trivia, in 1991 film Saajan that featured her as Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan's mother. She was only 33, while Sanjay Dutt was 32 and Salman Khan was 26 years old.
In fact, what's shocking is that in 1993 film Shreeman Aashique, she played Rishi Kapoor's mother, when Rishi Kapoor was 41 and she was 35.
Such was her natural acting talent that she (59) went on to play mother or mother figure to actors like Govinda (53), Sanjay Dutt (57), Rishi Kapoor (64), Shah Rukh Khan (51), Sunny Deol (60), Anil Kapoor (60), Salman Khan (51) etc. Also read: Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Saath Saath Hain, Hum Aapke Hain Koun! - Salman Khan and Reema Lagoo's special bond in films that spelt hits
As one can see above, she mostly played mother to actors who were 3-4 years younger, or mostly older to her, but not once it looked odd at all on the big screen and the sole credit of that goes to her talent. This speaks volume about her acting prowess.
May her soul Rest In Peace...gone too soon.
