Yes, this did happen. Read on to know how Sooraj Pancholi came into the picture...
Hero starring Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty is a remake of Subhash Ghai's hit 1983 movie by the same name. With a lanky Jackie Shroff and a beautiful Meenakshi Sheshadri in the cast, the film was a big hit. Salman Khan hoped to recreate the same magic with Sooraj and Athiya in the remake that released on September 11 but it couldn't manage much. Guess had they stuck to the original choice for the film, it would have created history. What we are talking about? Would you believe if we say Sooraj wasn't supposed to do this film in the first place but Salman Khan himself? You might not but it is a fact.
Salman Khan was offered the film and the actor was very keen to be part of it. Given the fact that the film has all the elements of Bollywood in it from action, romance, dance to separation, Salman was kicked about it. But couldn't commit to it immediately. Later, Bajrangi Bhaijaan felt that the role demands a younger actor and so, he decided to hone Sooraj for the same.
In other reports, Jackie Shroff was apparently also very keen that his son Tiger debuts with the remake too who later arrived with Sajid Nadiadwala's Heropanti. It seems Salman wasn't too interested to part with such a great idea and decided to produce it by launching two star kids.
Well, that kind of put a heavy load on Sooraj's shoulders to prove that Salman was right in putting his faith on a newcomer rather than himself and we all know how that turned out!
