Dishoom has certainly been one of the much awaited films of this year. Starring Varun Dhawan, John Abraham and Jacqueline Fernandez, everyone has been eagerly waiting to see what this hot brigade has in store for us. Plus, Dishoom explores the buddy cop genre which for all that we know, is bound to keep the audience entertained. So how is the film? Is it worth our wait? Well, BollywoodLife's movie critic Sreeju Sudhakaran is currently watching the film at a nearby theatre and here's what he has to say about the first half of the film..
What happens when India's best batsman is kidnapped before the most awaited India - Pakistan finale in Dubai? That's what happens to Viraj Sharma (Saqib Saleem), the man who brought Indian cricket team out of sticky situations with his match winning knocks. The Indian Ministry sends their best officer Kabir (John Abraham) to investigate the missing person. In Dubai, he pairs up with the local cop Jai (Varun Dhawan), a rookie who can't solve a case on his own. Together they follow many leads to determine what exactly happened with Viraj. In between they meets several suspects, played by Nargis Fakhri, Vijay Raaz and of course the much hyped cameo by Akshay Kumar. They also got hold of a thief Ishika (Jacqueline Fernandez) who has seen one of the kidnappers' face.
The first half is entertaining, thanks to the mystery behind the disappearance, Varun's buffoonery, a few punchlines and Akshay's cameo. John Abraham's muscles do the talking for him, and he is good as the cop who himself breaks the rules be it in any country. Varun continues his Dilwale act, and he cracks a few smiles. John and Varun's camaraderie is also of the first half's highlights. However, it's Akshay Kumar who gets the best laughs, though his act could offend a particular community. Akshaye Khanna makes an entry near the interval, and makes an impact immediately.
The plot is definitely interesting, but the storytelling is sometimes very average. However with Akshaye Khanna's entry, we can look forward to a more interesting second half.
