The ace filmmaker is now trying some new technique to catch the eye of the distributors
Anurag Kashyap's films have perennially been facing issues. Reason being his films are not massy and appeal more to the classes and connoisseurs of great cinema. The Girl In Yellow Boots, Ugly, Shorts, Katiyabaaz, etc are some examples. The latest to join the list is Ghoomketu, directed by ad filmmaker Pushpendra Misra under Anurag's Phantom Films.
Ghoomketu stars Nawazudding Siddiqui, Ragini Khanna in the lead along with cameos from Amitabh Bachchan, Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha. The film is lying on the shelves after being completed for a long time now and the primary reason is that there are no distributors who are ready to buy the film. So what will Anurag do now?
Well, Kashyap has a plan. The filmmaker is trying to collaborate with a big production house to share the production rights of the film. That would lessen Phantom Film's profit share but will mean that the film sees the light of the day. If a big production house backs the films then distributors will come like bees. While speaking to a leading daily a source informs, "The film’s shoot was wrapped up long ago but there are certain hurdles in the way of its release. No one seems interested to buy the film and so, they are now trying to find a big fish (big production house) who can facilitate its release."
Even recently Anurag faced this problem and finally it was DAR Motion Films which collaborated with Phantom Films and got Ugly released last week. We all know what a spectacular film Ugly was. We hope even Ghoomketu finds a good production house's backing so that Anurag Kashyap's fans may enjoy the classy cinema that he intends to bring out to society.
