Finally, Allu Arjun's Duvvada Jagannadam has hit theatres today! After one promo and two trailers, the buzz around the movie has been huge. To add to it this is the only Tollywood release this festive season. This is Allu Arjun's first collaboration with Harish Shankar. The Telugu actor will star opposite Pooja Hegde for the first time. From the looks of the teaser and trailer, DJ is all set to be an action packed love story. Our reviewer Karthika Raveendran is watching the film right now and this what she has to say about the first half of the film..
She says, "The story follows Jaggnnath Shastri, a pious, religious traditional caterer from a place called Annapurna. He's loud but very sincere at his job. Allu Arjun has got the get up spot on! His act is over the top, probably to give his character a comic twist. Have to admit, when Allu Arjun appears on screen, he won't go unnoticed! He grabs your attention with his natural flair for acting. Just when we get used to Shastri Jagannath, turns out this is a cover up for his real character -DJ, he is an assassin who kills off all those people involved in illegal practices. Unsurprisingly, DJ has had a super success rate. Nobody has been able to get the better of him. There's also a soft side to him when he helps out one of his senior caterers and lends him money. What makes this character interesting is it's multiple shades. He's pious, hardcore and caring all at the same time.
He is going on with his dual life when suddenly it turns upside down while catering for a certain wedding. Because that's where he meets Pooja. Whether you like it or not, the introduction to Pooja played by Pooja Hegde begins with sole focus on her midriff, cleavage and her bare back. The director has literally objectified her body and first established the fact that Pooja is undeniably hot. How that adds value to the story is question I would like to ask. Shastri Jagannath is insistent that to-be-groom follows the customs and does not meet his to be wife before the wedding. That's when the groom decides to plot against Shastri by teaming up with his to be wife and his gang of girls. Pooja is one among them of course. She flirts around with Shastri at every opportunity she gets. Songs of course follow. Considering Allu Arjun is an ace dancer, you can get through them without breaking your head. When he confesses his love for her, she confesses that's she's never loved him and that it was just a way to distract him.
While Shastri is taken aback and is upset, his love life takes a backseat when he finds out the senior caterer he helped passed away. An Agro diamond company had a role to play in his death. There is another mafia who is controlling the Agro diamond company and exploiting it for the wrong reasons. That's when DJ decides to sort out this matter once and for all.
Meanwhile, Pooja heads to Abu Dhabi to meet up with this guy to probably discuss a future with him. The guy turns out to be everything she had wanted. A rich guy who loves brands, takes her shopping and ends the date with coffee at the largest coffee shop. Everything was perfect until he began speaking to his imaginary mother. She realises she doesn't want to be with him and then recalls Shastri and his simple values.
Her father, the Chief Minister wants Shastri finished as his daughter has fallen in love with him and that's why he sends goons to kill him off but what he doesn't realise is that Shastri and DJ are one and the same person.
After bashing each of them back and blue, DJ gets on the phone with the leader of mafia who works for the CM. This leader happens to be the same person who is exploiting Agro Diamond. DJ warns him that he is coming.
The film doesn't really have a conflict because DJ is just perfect. He is invincible. Tired of the same old kind of action drama were the actor is glorified at every instance. His stunts, his stance, is highlighted in every scene. The story doesn't hold much weight. Hoping the second half makes this film better."
