BollywoodLife walks down memory lane and handpicks three good and bad shows that aired at the start of year 2014
This year, over ten shows began on popular Hindi GEC channels of which only a few managed to come up with unique concepts, had drama galore, got us emotional and even made us cry. However, the list of shows that disappointed us was really long. It was very difficult to pick just three among the lot. Nonetheless, we have the top three for you.
Ek Hasina Thi: Sanjeeda Sheikh and Vatsal Seth’s thriller show is by far the best daily soap that went on air this year. The soap always keeps you on the edge; you are compelled to come back and watch it the next day just to know what happens next. It has brilliant performances by Simone Singh, Sanjeeda, Vatsal and Ayub Khan. Ek Hasina Thi has a edgy story in all aspects. Need we say more?
Kumkum Bhagya: It may seem like a typical hate-love-hate story, but what makes Kumkum Bhagya different from the others is the chemistry between Sriti Jha and Shabbir Ahluwalia, the confused character of our hero, the treatment and production value of the show. Of course the other characters like Bulbul (Mrunal Thakur), Purab (Arjit Taneja) and Suresh (Faisal Rashid) add the much needed spice to the story.
Khatron Ke Khiladi 5: We believe among all the seasons of KKK, this one was the best ever. While Akshay Kumar was superb as the host in the previous seasons, he did not possess the charm and expertise that Rohit Shetty had. The stunts executed this year truly seemed daredevilry and exciting. Cape Town as a location was the perfect spot and the contestants surely added the much needed drama to the show.
Suhani Si Ek Ladki: The triangle love story has nothing exciting to offer. Newbies Rajshri Rani Pandey, Sahil Mehta and Neha Yadav – who play the lead roles, seem to have quit acting school mid way. The romantic drama series is a yawn inducing soap, which desperately requires some energy.
Jhalli Anjali Ke Tootey Dil Ki Amazing Story: When we first heard the concept, it seemed like a story we’d all relate to. However, when the show started, we relaised that the makers had only thought through the initial idea and left the rest Ram bharose. It’s an immature and flimsy story that does not make much sense. Even if it is targeted at the new generation, the makers shouldn’t assume that everyone is as stupid as their pivotal character.
Mad In India: The comedy show started amidst a lot of controversies. Unfortunately, it did not meet the expectations of the audience. Constant comparison to Comedy Nights with Kapil didn’t help the show either. Sunil Grover’s Mad In India was a drab all over. People who’d gather in front of their TV sets just to watch him were disappointed to see Grover’s lackluster performance and forced comedy. Luckily the show ended within a few months of going on air.
