It’s Main Hoon Na’s 17-year anniversary today. Unbelievable, no, how time flies?! It feels just like the other day we had stepped out of the cinema halls, imagining ourselves romancing Shah Rukh Khan on Tumse Milke Dil Ka Haal or Gori Gori. The masala entertainer was released in 2004. But did you know it was initially scheduled for a 2003 release? Yes, you read that right. For the unversed, Main Hoon Na had been in development since 2001. Yes, that long. The Farah Khan movie was delayed for numerous reasons over the years. An interesting trivia about Main Hoon Na is that reportedly, Zayed Khan was not the original choice to play Lucky aka Lakshman Prasad Sharma’s character in the film. And that Hrithik Roshan was the first choice.
Reportedly, the handsome hunk had not only signed the film but had also got his signing amount for Main Hoon Na. However, due to the unavailability of dates, the Super 30 actor had to opt out of the film. Did you know this? Well, as per some media reports, even before Hrithik Roshan made his debut with Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, he was in huge demand. Hence, he already had multiple projects in his kitty. With numerous delays plaguing the shoot of Main Hoon Na and other work commitments on Hrithik’s end, the War actor had to move on.
The production house then sought a quick replacement after everything finally fell into place, and to avoid further delay, Zayed Khan eventually played Lucky. Apart from Shah Rukh Khan and Zayed Khan, Main Hoon Na also starred Suniel Shetty, Sushmita Sen, Amrita Rao, Kirron Kher, Naseeruddin Shah, Kabir Bedi, Murali Sharma, Bindu, Boman Irani and Satish Shah to name a few.
Talking about Shah Rukh Khan, his role as Major Ram Sharma was widely appreciated. From his dressing sense (not uncle) to the emotional scenes, stunts and romance – a lot of female fans were crushing over Shah Rukh’s Major Ram in Main Hoon Na.
