The upcoming weekend episode of Indian Idol season 12 will mark the return of judges Himesh Reshammiya and Neha Kakkar who'll be taking the stage along with music director Anu Malik. The special episode will pay tribute to Kishore Kumar’s 100 greatest songs, for which his son, Amit Kumar, an accomplished music director and singer himself, will grace the show as the chief guest. Both Himesh Reshammiya and Neha Kakkar were missing from the previous couple of episodes after Sony Entertainment Television had shifted base for Indian Idol season 12 to Daman, following the Maharashtra government's decision to suspend all film and TV shoots in the state, and Anu Mail and lyricist Manoj Muntashir had stepped in to fill to void, with Anu Malik slated to continue his judging stint.
On the episode, contestant Anjali Gaikwad renders a glorious performance on three of Kishoreda's iconic songs, Mere Naina Sawan Bhaado, Are Yaar Meri Tum Ho Ghazab, and Piya Piyaa Mora Jiya Pukaare, which mesmerised everyone on the set. She was honoured by chief guest Amit Kumar and all three judges. Praising Anjali Gaikwad's voice, Amit Kumar said, “In those days, Kishore Kumarji was not even trained. Today, looking at your talent, it proves that your father has given you the best understanding of every sur and tal of music and your voice is amiable please cherish it.”
Himesh Reshammiya also shares the story behind a song recorded by his father with both Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar in the early days. “During those times, my father, Mr. Vipin Reshammiya, recorded a song with Kishoreda, which had a classical touch, and even today, we have that song with us that couldn’t be released. But, it's my promise that I will release the song as it has my daddy’s composition with Kishoreda and Latadi,” said the celebrated composer Reminscing a quirky incident from that recording, Himesh added, “Lataji gave a substantially great performance and when Kishoreda heard the song of Lataji, with an instant effect he said, 'Ab recording cancel, because I will sing in both male and female voices,' and further stated, 'Because Lata has sung so great, I have to practice this,' and Kishoreda used to call my dad several times. Kishoreda practised it, then sang, and later recorded the song. I will release the song of Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar that we couldn’t release.”
