The first song from the upcoming film, Fanney Khan, was released today. We have been hearing about this particular dance track for the longest time. We knew this number will act as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's introductory song in the film. But we certainly were not prepared for how awesome it is going to be. Titled, Mohabbat, the song is your next entry on the listen-on-loop list. Mohabbat has been crooned by Sunidhi Chauhan, extremely popular for her energetic vocals. She does full justice to the song. At the first go, the song sounds eerily similar to the hit vintage track Jawan Hai Mohabbat Haseen... But Tanishk Bagchi, the music composer, develops a unique identity for the song quickly. We wonder if the similarity is coincidental or is a part of the film's narrative. American choreographer Frank Gatson Jr, who has earlier worked with Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez amongst others, was roped in for this number and he has done a good job. The choreography is like it will be on the stage and not like in a typical Bollywood dance number. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is playing the role of the pop singer Baby Singh. She brings the much-deserved oomph to this track. It is because of her that this song looks so glamorous. Fanney Khan is the remake of the Dutch comedy Everybody’s Famous but gives a very good Indian spin to it. We have been bored to death by the plethora of songs that Bollywood has been producing over the past few years. But in Fanney Khan the usage of remade songs seems essential and to top that nicely pulled off. In the trailer alone we hear unique takes on popular songs like Jawaan Hai Mohabbat and Ye Jo Halka Halka Suroor Hai.
Fanney Khan has been directed by Atul Manjrekar. The musical comedy is bankrolled under the banners of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra Pictures and T-Series and is scheduled to release on August 3.
