Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) is the latest to join the brigade that bashed All India Bakchod's show on YouTube
Karan Johar, Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor should apologise for AIB Roast else strict action will be taken against them. Yes, you heard that right! While Bollywood has not come out in support of one of their own, the FWICE has gone a step further and demanded an UNCONDITIONAL apology from the trio.
AIB Knockout - The Roast of Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Karan Johar video was pulled down from YouTube after the team got flak from various sections of the society. This roast has now become a national debate with politicians, police and law being involved. While a part of the viewers believe that it was funny, others disagreed. With many demanding a ban on the video, many think it is curbing of freedom of speech and expression.
The latest to add fuel to this episode is FWICE, a film body that issued a statement after meeting on Wednesday where the federation has warned strict disciplinary action against Karan, Ranveer and Arjun if they failed to tender an apology.
Indian Express reported that FWICE is backing Ashoke Pandit on AIB controversy. In fact a letter signed by FWICE president Kamlesh Pandey and general secretary Dilip Pithva suggests AIB Roast was "a travesty of basic human tendency in the name of entertainment".
Pithva in a statement to this news daily said, “I had been getting calls about the show from many unhappy members of the industry for the past two days. On Tuesday night, I watched the show. On Wednesday morning, I called up Ashoke Pandit and told him I backed his view on the AIB event. The board met in the afternoon and drafter the letter. This is not the face of the industry. The show is vulgar and the film industry members who have participated in it are creating a wrong perception of the film industry.”
Pithva also added that if the trio do not apologize within two to three days they intend to take strict action, “FWICE heads 22 crafts. We can ask all our members to stop working with Ranveer, Arjun and Karan. Everyone working in the film industry is a member of FWICE and hence would have to comply with their decision.
