The sequel to the 2011 film Force has released this Friday, and though the film has got a mixed response, Force 2 has managed to leave this writer impressed. John Abraham returns of the sequel, continuing the character trajectory of ACP Yashvardhan, this time facing a new, more intelligent and more deadly foe in Tahir Raj Bhasin. However he is not alone in tackling the new menace - he has the help of Sonakshi Sinha, who plays a RAW agent in the film. Force 2 is directed by Abhinay Deo, the man behind the black comedy Delhi Belly and Anil Kapoor's brilliant terrorism thriller 24. Unlike the first movie which blended romance with action and thriller elements and was also a remake of a Tamil film (Suriya's Kaakha Kaakha), the sequel is an original film which is purely a thriller that focuses on the brilliant cat and mouse chase between the heroes and the villain.
As the film has no Khan in the lead and with the ongoing demonetisation issue, trade experts have predicted a start of around Rs 6 crores for the film. This is exactly what Force 2 had collected in India on day 1 as per prominent trade analyst Taran Adarsh's tweet. The film managed to collect Rs 6.05 crores on day 1, which is far better that its competitor's Tum Bin 2 collections (whose shows we heard had got cancelled thanks to dismal showing).
With the positive word of mouth publicity, there are chances that Force 2 (for which John Abraham is also a producer) might see a rise in the collection over the weekend. However, with people still lining up at the banks than in the movie theatres can still be detrimental for the movie. It's kinda unfair sine Force 2 is easily one of the better thrillers Bollywood has produced in recent time, mixed reviews be damned.
