This is Hrithik Roshan's 4th highest opening day figures this decade.
Hrithik Roshan's much hyped Mohenjo Daro has sadly taken a less than average opening at the box office, despite having a huge star in the lead and directed by one of the most acclaimed directors in industry, Ashutosh Gowariker (who's albeit facing a huge slump in his career).
As per the box office figures revealed by popular trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film has got only Rs 8.87 crores at the domestic box office, thereby getting ninth highest opening of 2016. It couldn't even beat Udta Punjab (an adult film which had suffered censor copy leak couple of days before the release) or Baaghi's (starring Hrithik's self-declared most ardent fan, Tiger Shroff) opening day figures, as both films got Rs 10.05 crores and Rs 11.94 crores respectively.
Moreover, it lost out to its biggest rival at the box office, Akshay Kumar's Rustom, which garnered Rs 14.11 crores at the dboc. One thing to remember, is that both films have not got much critical acclaim compared to their previous films.
However, Hrithik Roshan will be worried to know that the film didn't even manage to break the opening figures of his last releases like Bang Bang (Rs. 27.54 crores) and Agneepath (Rs 25 crores approx).
Mohenjo Daro, based on the Indus valley civilization, had faced a lot of criticism and jokes ever since the first trailer had hit the net, for all the historical inaccuracies. Opinions didn't change much after the film was released, as people blamed the film for poor pacing issues and stale plot.
