Freaky Ali had all the strapping of being one of the surprise hits of 2016, something we could rejoice forever. A Wednesday, Aamir and recently Neerja did just that. Such surprises are always pleasant. It wasn't even wrong to expect such a thing from the film because for one the punchlines in trailer made people chuckle and Nawaz's comic timing looked great. It had all the commercial elements in place, an underdog who rises to the occasion and becomes famous, a cute love story with a hot heroine and some really cool lines. Although the film failed to please the critics, it did prove the Trade wrong. Despite considerably low screen count, in its first three days at the box office, Freaky Ali has earned a good 8. 50 cr crore as against the predicted 3 crore.

Taran Adarsh, Trade Analyst, spoke about the numbers,Fri 2.55 cr, Sat 2.85 cr, Sun 3.10 cr. Total: ₹ 8.50 cr. India biz. The film's first day at the box office was so low that it was difficult to see it fare better in the coming days although there was a flicker of improvement in its numbers on Saturday. Sunday got more numbers with 3. 10 cr.
When we had enquired about the fate of Nawaz’s movie which is a romantic comedy from our Trade expert Akshaye Rathi, he revealed, “Freaky Ali has had a 10-15 per cent occupancy across India (till 6 pm). The start is very bad and will make around Rs 1 crore on day one. The film has just got about 600-700 screens, so the less number of screens and poor occupancy will hamper the film. By the end of the weekend, Freaky Ali will collect about Rs 3 crore.” But the film proved everyone wrong by posting a decent total at the box office.
Freaky Ali, a rags to riches story about an orphaned guy (Ali), has earned money courtesy Nawazuddin’s fabulous performance. Our reviewer liked the star’s performance, but Sohail’s direction and plot disappointed him to the core. In fact, the other movie critics as well as the audience has given mixed reviews of the film, leaving the film with a very low word of mouth publicity.
