On Gandhi Jayanti, we celebrate the legacy of Baapu. As we all know, there have been several actors who have played Gandhi on-screen. Be it his simplicity, the belief system he propagated, or his will power, Gandhi's importance in India's independence has been highlighted by many actors on the silver screen. Here's taking a look at them:

Sir Ben Kingsley

Sir Ben Kingley's portrayal of Gandhi in Richard Attenborough's Gandhi, has probably been one of the best ones on-screen. Not only did the film win 8 Oscars but Ben also took one home for the best actor title. From the accent to Bappu's distinctive walk, Ben was spot on with each and every element, in the film.

Dilip Prabhavalkar

Who can forget popular Marathi actor Dilip Prabhavalkar's awesome role of Gandhi in Sanjay Dutt's Lage Raho Munnabhai? The actor made 'Gandhigiri' a rage, with his stint in the film. The venture perfectly highlighted Gandhi's preachings and showed people on how his ways could be more powerful then resorting to violence.

Rajit Kapur

The actor who became a household name with his role as Byomkesh Bakshy, portrayed Gandhi in the 1996 film The Making of the Mahatma. The actor's performance received a positive response from the audience as well as the critics. Darshan Jariwala

Darshan played Baapu in Feroz Abbas Khan;s critically acclaimed film, Gandhi, My Father, which showcased the complicated relationship, the father of our nation shared with his son, Harilal Gandhi.
