This was due to time constraints. However, the lady took up the show when the offer came to her the second time round
Gautami Kapoor got a heart-warming response from the industry when she made a comeback after seven years on Tere Sheher Mein (TSM). However, her joy was short-lived as the show was not successful in generating TRPs. Fate had other plans though and she bagged another show, Parvarrish 2 even before TSM went off air. Here are excerpts from an interview.
What made you take up Parvarrish Season 2?
Well, the first season was a hugely successful one, which was a huge reason. Moreover, it’s a show by DJ’s – Deeya and Tony Singh are known for their radically different shows. Sony as a channel also believes in good content. Moreover, Ram (Kapoor) has done two shows for Sony and now it was my turn (smiles). Parvarrish 2 is interesting, fun and complicated. It delves into parenting, friendship, martial and familial relationships. There is a lot in it for an actor.
How is Simran different from Sneha, you character in TSM?
Sneha was a mother to three daughters. She had lived a life of luxury and never had to work for a living. Simran is a jewellery designer. She has her own business, works long hours and faces professional and personal challenges. In Parvarrish, her husband and she are equals. She is her biggest motivator and inspires her to do better. Simran’s daughter Ria is in the 10th standard and has her own problems.
What went wrong with TSM? Were you disappointed?
I don’t know what went wrong. You should ask the producer or director. It was just the track changed as per the ratings. The role that was narrated to me was phenomenal. I worked hard and got appreciation from all quarters. I must say that Rajan Shahi’s production house is one of the best ones I have ever worked for and they are great professionals. I would love to work with them again once the role and opportunity arises. I have been a part of the industry for too long to be saddened by a show’s closure. Such things are part and parcel of life. In fact, Ram also tells me why do you go for a narration for a daily show? You know that the script changes as per the ratings. Sony, as a channel does not suck up to the TRP pressure and their shows have an urban flavour.
Was your transition from TSM to Parvarrish 2 a smooth one?
I was offered Parvarrish 2 some time back but then I was too busy with my track in TSM. I refused it as I have never done two shows simultaneously. When they approached me the second time, I wasn’t doing much on TSM. I spoke to Rajanji and he told me to go ahead with Parvarrish without any hesitation. I think it’s wonderful on part of a producer to give such leeway to his actors. He also accommodated my dates so I could manage both the shows. I consider myself lucky that I bagged a new show even before one went off air.
Being a parent, what is the biggest challenge for a working mother?
I think if you are an organised person everyone falls smoothly. When you and your kids know what will happen when, they are at ease. I had taken a seven-year long break for my kids. They are six and nine now and have a set routine. So, I can manage very well.

I am the strict parent. He is very lenient as he gets to spend very little time with them. I am the one who insists on discipline.
