Akshay Kumar's Gold released with John Abraham's Satyamev Jayate but it did not get affected by the clash at all. In fact, the film earned the actor his highest opening day collection ever. His biggest opener till date was Singh Is Bliing which released in 2015 which had earned Rs 20. 65 crore. Even after delivering his career's biggest hit with Toilet Ek Prem Kath last year, that record was still untouched. Now Gold has managed to beat that. The sports drama has earned a massive Rs 25.25 crore, becoming his highest grossing film ever.
Taran Adarsh had in the morning tweeted that both the films have seen amazing numbers on I-day. Both Satyameva Jayate and Gold have managed to interest the audience. Akshay was anyway supposed to get an upper hand here because the actor has a loyal fanbase. He has become a force to reckon with at the box office since he figured out a way to bring out socially relevant messages on the big screen. Plus, the film has around 2000-3000 screens which only fueled the film's collections at the box office. The film charts the journey of Indian Hockey team's win in 1948 Olympics. Sports dramas are certainly becoming a fan favourite. Check the latest collections here...
Gold is expected to earn more because it is riding on good word of mouth. If its run couldn't be hampered by a clash, nothing else can retard its pace at the box office.
