No matter which region, the film industry is used to its set of sexist questions from the interviewers. Mostly, actresses choose to refrain from answering the question or avoid the topics very diplomatically. But that was not the case with Gouri Kishan, who did not stutter once before calling out misogyny. The actress is currently on a press tour for her upcoming film Others and is clearly getting tired of all the questionable and sexist questions that she has been getting. In a recent interview, she slammed an interviewer directly when he brought up the topic of her weight. The actress has received support from fellow actresses like Hinmayi Sripaada, Khushbu Sundar, and Richa Chadha as well.

What was the comment about?

Women in the film industry are no strangers to sexism, unfortunately, and so is the case with Gouri Kishan. This was not the first time the actress has gotten questions about her weight. The interviewer asked her co-star, Aditya Madhavan, about her weight because he had to lift the actress up. The actress was so shocked with the question that she could not respond to the question at first.

When the interviewer began to defend himself, she called him out bluntly. She said, “How does my weight concern you? How is it relevant to this movie? Every woman has a different body type. I will let my talent speak. I’ve only done character-driven films so far. I don’t need your validation... I did not find it funny. Stop normalizing body-shaming. It was a question about me; I have the right to have an opinion.”

She also mentioned that men rarely get questions about their weight like this, and it is just the female actresses who are subjected to them.

She said, “You are objectifying a female actor... This is not journalism; you are a disgrace to your profession.”

Actresses come in support of Gauri Kishan

Multiple other actresses came in support of Gauri Kishan, including Chinmayi Sripaada, Richa Chadha, and Khusbhu Sundar.

Chada took to X and said, “It’s amazing that apart from the regular arduous struggle of showbiz, women have to navigate around so many floating turds while swimming towards success and self-realization.”

Chinmayi also shared, “Gowri did an amazing job. The moment you call out a disrespectful and an unnecessary question, a whole lot of shouting down happens. So proud that someone so young stood her ground and pushed back. No male actor gets asked what his weight is. No idea why they asked a female actor.”

“Journalism has lost its ground. The so-called journos take journalism to the gutters. How much a woman weighs is none of their business. And asking the hero about it?? What a shame! Kudos to the young woman (Gouri Kishan) who stood her ground and gave it back. Are the same men ok if we, women actors, turn around and ask the same question about the women in their families? Respect is never one-way traffic. Learn to give respect if you expect to be respected,” Sundar posted.
