Here is a lovely piece of news for all fans of Gulzar. A day after he celebrated his 83rd birthday, news has come in that his 1988 film, Libaas will finally be released in India. It is a special film for a various reasons. In the year 1988, Libaas was a film on adultery, when filmmakers shied away from such topics. It stars Naseeruddin Shah and Shabana Azmi who have delivered hits like Sparsh (1980) and Masoom (1983). Libaas will be a film for modern viewers to understand how the maestro was way ahead of his times in all respects.
When the film was made, people raised questions about the objectionable content. But it was reportedly a tiff between the producer late Vikas Mohan and the director that led to the delay. The noted trade analysts sons’ Amul and Anshul Mohan will release the film. It revolves around a director, Sudhir and his wife, Seema. They have a picture perfect life on top but their relationship is fractured one. The movie also features Raj Babbar, Sushma Seth, Utpal Dutt, Annu Kapoor and Savita Bajaj. RD Burman has given the music for the film.
