And there will be more to come...
Shah Rukh Khan's was expected to make box office really happy. 20 cr on its first day is a great number to put on board when there is no holiday period to bank on. Our trade expert Amod Mehra however was expecting a 25 cr first day earnings but given the premise of the film which is dark and edgy, the film has done incredible business. Clearly, the film has found a place in one of highest openers' tally. So we thought why not tell you which other films of the actor made incredible money on its opening day at the box office. Fan
1. Happy New Year Opening day: 44.90 cr
Happy New Year didn't really get rave reviews but the silliness of the plot became its biggest USP. It was funny, we have to admit although it could have been a lot better. It did great business, probably because it released on Diwali, SRK's favourite spot. On its opening day, the film made a whopping 44.90 cr. It is still the highest opening day collection ever for a film.
2. Chennai Express Opening day: 33.12 cr
Chennai Express was perhaps a film to please the fans of the actor in South. But what was more exciting was Shah Rukh's association with Rohit Shetty who was known to be an Ajay Devgn favourite till then. It was supposed to be a mix of romance and action and it turned out to be just that. His fans lapped it up like nothing else. In fact, Chennai Express worked a lot down South.
Opening day: 21 cr
It might come across as strange but Dilwale is one of the biggest opening grossers for Shah Rukh Khan. Despite fierce competition from Bajirao Mastani, the film managed to earn 21 cr which was more than what the period romance brought in. It was definitely SRK's pull that got the audience to the theatre. Plus, there was his chemistry with Kajol that worked as a bonus. The songs had caught up really well which also worked for the film. But critics weren't too kind which perhaps was the reason why it slumped after a great opening day collection.
Opening day: 20 cr
Fan released yesterday and has already become the highest opening grosser of 2016 with 20 cr in its kitty. Saturday and Sunday are expected to add some more to its tally we are sure about that. The film is unlike a Shah Rukh Khan one because there is no song, no romance, just a fan's obsession for a star. Guess that's what made people throng the theatre to check out the actor Shah Rukh we have been missing since a while.
5. Ra. One
Opening day: 18. 50 cr
It was Shah Rukh Khan's gift to his kids and also his attempt to prove that we can also come up with amazing CG effects in India. There is no need to run west to get it done. But in the midst of all that, the plot got lost. While critics shunned it mostly, fans loved it on its first day at the box office.
But then Shah Rukh Khan hardly cares about box office numbers, at least that's what he told us.
