On his birthday today, enjoy some of the best tracks by Hariharan...
Remember the haunting vocals of a lovelorn man seeking out his love from Bombay? It is very difficult to forget that voice and the depth in it. That was a unique voice of a man who made people wonder how can someone sing so smoothly even when he is hitting the high notes. That’s how Hariharan entered Bollywood and made every one his fan. On his birthday, here are nine of his best numbers which should be part of every music lovers’ playlist or you aren’t musical enough!
Tu Hi Re (Bombay)
Love needs pathos or you haven’t felt it properly and if you don’t understand why I am saying so, listen to this song. Hariharan and his lilting voice make you well up with tears for the lovesick man calling out to his lover.
Bahon Ke Darmiyaan (Khamoshi)
The meaning of sensuousness was tad different before Bipasha Basu and the likes hit the screens. It was the music which used to set the tune for lovemaking. This Hariharan number from Khamoshi is just irresistibly beautiful and soothing to the ear.
Kuch Mere Dil Ne Kaha (Tere Mere Sapne)
This track is a part of a lesser known film, but this Hariharan rendition touches a chord. Yes, I agree Chandrachur Singh and Priya Gill aren't treat to the sore eyes but don't give up on the song because of them. You will miss a geat deal if you do so!
Mere Dushman Mere Bhai (Border)
A patriotic film like Border which had as many Pakistan-bashing dialogues as the shelling shown in the film, a song like 'Mere Dushman Mere Bhai' reflecting on the damage after the war is simply heart-wrenching. Only Hariharan can add so much emotion to every word in the song which definitely hits you somewhere.
Aye Dil Laya Hai Bahaar (Kya Kehna)
A happy song from Kya Kehna, this track is really the most loved family number ever. If you thought Hum Saath Saath Hain was his best, listen to this song and I bet you will change your mind.
Chanda Re (Sapnay)
Another love song from him which sounds more like a ballad and also has the MJ of India Prabhudheva trying some serenading steps for a change with Kajol on toe. The simplicity of this track is enough to make you fall in love if you aren't already in love.
Jhoka Hawa Ka (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam)
Another gem from the man, Jhoka Hawa Ka is probably the best heartbreaking number Bollywood has ever produced. The way he rendered this song, it hits your where it hurts most. I bet it stirs some pleasant-unpleasant memories in every one of us the moment we listen to it.
Chappa Chappa Charkha Chale (Maachis)
A highly energetic yet subtle track from Maachis by Hariharan had become the anthem of the nation when it released.
A thematic song, the title track of Yaadein is probably his finest. It's sweet, soothing and very heart-touching to say the least.
