The last few months have proved who is the real boss
When the fight broke out between Kapil Sharma and Colors towards the end of 2015, no one had predicted that the ace comedian would move out of the channel. Comedy Nights With Kapil have a hugely popular show and fans were mighty dejected. Some questioned if he could repeat his success with another channel once the story of his move onto Sony was announced. Naysayers were many but now it looks like Kapil is having the last laugh. The show is on the top five in the TRP charts and Sony’s ranking has also improved considerably due to the high viewership of his show. Here is a look at how Kapil Sharma proved he is as strong a brand as Colors…
All of us will remember how Bajirao Mastani was telecasted on the same day as Kapil’s launch i.e. April 24 to combat The Kapil Sharma Show. However, it got a TRP of 2.4 as compared to Kapil’s 3.2. The film was shown without ads and fared worse than Dilwale, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo and Happy New Year on TV. It was stiff competition but he proved he is the boss.
Colors has a couple of comedy shows Comedy Nights Bachao and Comedy Nights Live. The comedians on both the shows have not been able to strike a chord with the audience. Moreover, the reported distasteful content on CNB has made many stars avoid the show. Remember the infamous Akshay Kumar incident with Lisa Haydon? Hrithik Roshan gave Colors a miss to promote Mohenjo Daro on The Kapil Sharma Show and so did Akshay Kumar for Rustom. We know how stars are crucial for non-fiction shows and there is clearly one leader here.
When Kapil Sharma left, his entire team left with him. None of the others actors barring Upasna Singh stayed back. The lady after a few months said how disgusted she was with Comedy Nights Live and said it was not a funny show at all. There cannot be more discredit for a brand than this. The move showed that his co-actors also had tremendous faith in what he could do with another channel.

The Kapil Sharma Show has also given a competitive edge to Sony in the GEC space. It is now on the fifth spot and things can improve given the fact that it has a new bouquet of shows, which are quite loved by all. Weekend is tough for Colors with Zee TV’s Brahmarakshas faring brilliantly. India’s Got Talent did well but 24 season 2 and Jhalak Dikhhlaa Jaa failed to take off on TRP charts.
