Pannu has dragged the fimmaker to court claiming that he was not given directorial credit
Guru Nanak biopic, Nanak Shah Fakir, which has garnered a lot of appreciation at the Cannes Film Festival and Sikh Film Festivals at Toronto and Los Angeles, is receiving a lot of criticism back home, in India. Adding to the troubles of the filmmaker, Hrinder Singh Sikka, was the recent court case filed against him by Sartaj Singh Pannu. Pannu claimed that he had worked on the project for two years as writer-director but was not given credit for the same.
In a statement issued by Pannu, he said, "I directed the film. I have filed a case against Gurbani Media Entertainment in the Delhi High Court. I respect Resul sir. But since he is a co-director of the company, a legal notice has also been sent to him."
However, Harinder has a different story to tell. In response to Sartaj's accusations, Sikka said, ""A K Bir had joined the film as the director and DoP of the movie but he was made to leave the project midway by some people. Pannu was hired later. I did not deny him credit but he is not the only director on the movie. I offered Pannu joint credit but he did not agree to even that. The court will decide it now."
While Harinder is fighting against the accusation which according to him is false, Oscar winner sound designer, Resul Pookutty has decided to stay away from any controversy. Pookutty, who is one of the directors of Gurbani Media Entertainment, was credited co-producer of the film but has stepped down from the position. "My commitments to the film remain the same but I am not holding any official position because I need to step away from this unnecessary controversy. The co-producer post was offered to me as a kind gesture. My work in the film is selfless as I truly believe in the teachings of Guru Nanak," he said.
Whose claim is true- Pannu's or Sikka's- only time will tell. Stay tuned for more updated on the same, right here!
