Zoya Akhtar had managed a casting coup of sorts when she signed Priyanka Chopra, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Farhan Akhtar, Anil Kapoor and Shefali Shah for Dil Dhadakne Do.
The multi-starrer kicks off with Kamal Mehra (Anil), the patriarch of the Mehra clan, going on a cruise with his wife Neelam (Shefali) to bring in their 30th wedding anniversary. The couple manages to convince their children Kabir (Ranveer) and Ayesha (Priyanka) to join them on the cruise. Priyanka plays an ambitious entrepreneur married to Rahul Bose when she goes on the cruise, but Farhan acts as the third angle to Priyanka-Rahul's dysfunctional relationship. During the cruise, Kamal and Neelam try to convince Kabir to get married to someone as per their standard. Kabir is born with a silver spoon and brought up to take care of the family business. But instead, he wants to become a pilot which stresses his father. Ranveer's character falls in love with Farah Ali (Anushka) who is one of the performers on the cruise. Farah follows her dreams and passion and when Kabir meets her, he realises that he too needs to relax and tries to escape the mess he is in.
Despite knowing this, I am quite excited to watch DDD simply because the film looks so fresh. The characters portrayed by each member of the star cast is something they haven't tried before. Though Dil Dhadakne Do is essentially a family film, it would be interesting to see how Zoya creates magic with her story telling about family bonding, estrangement and self discovery.
