After garnering accolades in many international film festivals, the trailer of Nawzuddin Siddiqui's highly anticipated biographical period drama is set to release on August 15 during the Independence Day (tomorrow). Based on the life of Saadat Hasan Manto, he film takes us through the journey of the writer, who leaves Bombay during the partition and shifts to Lahore.
Apart from Nawazuddin Siddiqui, the film also stars Paresh Rawal, Rishi Kapoor, Rasika Dugal and Tahir Raj Bhasin in pivotal roles. The film is directed by acclaimed actor-director Nandita Das, who previously helmed Firaaq. Manto is a historical period drama film about the controversial writer Saadat Hasan Manto who is known for his writings around the partition of India and Pakistan. Manto is produced under the banners of HP Studios, Filmstoc and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. The music of the film is composed by Sneha Khanwalkar, who previously worked in films like Gangs of Wasseypur series and Khoobsurat.
Talking about Manto, she said: "Manto stood for freedom of expression, both through his writings and the struggles he went through in his life. He challenged all forms of orthodoxy and despite six cases slapped on him, he believed in the power of the written word. That kind of conviction and the courage to follow it through is inspirational. I am an optimist. So, I believe that writers and artists will continue to express their truth through their work. We, as readers and audiences, need to support such people for our own sake, for a robust and mature society," she said.
