The Hindi film industry is one of the busiest that churns out more movies than any other entertainment hub. Be it commercial cinema or parallel, the varied genres have even diverse takers that determine the fate of the films at the box-office. However, it is the story or the plot twist that matters. Or so we thought! In a new turn of events, the I&B Ministry has rolled out a directive for producers and interestingly enough, it revolves around the credit roll of the film. As per a Mid-day report, the Ministry has observed that majority of the movies produce credits in English only, and it is something they wish to change. In a letter that was released on Tuesday, the directive has urged Bollywood filmmakers and directed them to produce credits in Hindi only, or Hindi and English. This is for people who do not know English and are watching the movie so they are not deprived of the information about the cast and crew. Reportedly, The directive will be put into effect in a month's time.
And needless to say, the move has garnered mixed reactions from trade analysts, including Pahlaj Nihalani who says, "Our budget increases as we have to shoot additional footage." However, CBFC advisory member Atul Mohan deems it a fitting proposition. He said, "If countries like China, Korea and France are releasing the credits in their national languages, why shouldn't we do the same? However, the audiences don't come to watch a movie for the credit titles, but for entertainment."
Amod Mehra, another industry expert explains that it won't affect the movie-going experience. "Hindi is our rashtra bhasha and if they want the credit titles in Hindi, it's fine. But it's a futile exercise because the audience walks out when the credits are rolling," he added.
