Last year Mahesh Babu collaborated with AR Murugadoss for a mega budget film called SPYDER. The film was bilingual set to release in Tamil and Telugu thus marking the superstar's debut in Kollywood. The movie was awauted with great expectations considering the killer actor-director combo. Fans were looking forward to know what this power packed duo had in store. But when the film released, it did not rake in the money that was expected. The Telangana rights for the film were sold at a whopping Rs 70 crore, but the distributor share for the film stood at Rs 30 crore. The total cost fo theatrical rights reportedly was Rs 125 crore, but the film only recovered 40% of it. Even in US, the film's loss stood at 50% as the film recovered only Rs 10.1 crore while the rights were acquired at Rs 15 crore. The movie opened to mixed reviews even with regards to the plot and Mahesh Babu's character. All in all the film wasn't a grand success it was expected to be. This average film came after Bhrahotsavam's disastrous run at the box office. With consecutive average films, it is important that Bharat Ane Nenu helps Mahesh Babu return to his Srimanthudu phase.
