The much awaited Rajinikanth starrer is all set to hit screens tomorrow.
The Kabali fever is at its peak, everyone is waiting for Friday when they will finally see Rajinikanth in this slick, don avatar! The film also stars Radhika Apte, Dhansika and Winston Chao. The movie is set to release in 5000 plus screens worldwide in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The Malay version will release on July 29th In Malaysia. But amid all this excitement, frenzy and anticipation, there was one question - how important is Kabali for Rajinikanth? Considering his last two releases - Kochadaiiyaan and Lingaa didn't fare well at the box office, is there a lot riding on Kabali?
Here's what a distributor from Bangalore had to say,"What is there in Kabali nobody knows, but there's Rajinikanth and that's enough. He is worshipped as a God. The opening of the movie will only depend on Rajinikanth. People have forgotten his previous movies ( Lingaa and Kochadaiiyaan but they haven't forgotten Rajinikanth." From what he says, looks like, fans have long forgotten his previous release, it doesn't matter. Rajini is back and that's enough. But what about the brand Rajini? Will this movie decide Rajini the brand's fate?
From the looks of it, Rajinikanth has gone through an evolution of sorts for his latest release. Yes, it's true there is a certain signature style all Rajini fans want to see the superstar in but it's about presenting the same style in a new avatar. It's like serving the same old wine in a new bottle. The fact Rajini is playing his age in this movie and also that he's working with a young, new director are signs Rajini the brand is going through an evolution. but in keeping with his style, dialogues and action sequences.
Another trade source adds further to that thought, "After a following a set pattern for his previous movies, Rajinikanth has now consciously evolved keeping in mind the current scenario in cinema. As the movie industry has changed, the mindset has changed, So has Rajinikanth. The source further revealed how the superstar had started to sit down for script reading with young directors. "Rajinikanth's decision to work with Pa Ranjith is the right move." revealed the source further.
So here's hoping Kabali will erase out Rajini's last two not-so-successful releases and we will be celebrating his new slick gangsta avatar more than ever!
