While the special effects in Indian movies has now become almost on par with Hollywood standards, here are a few films in recent times which take you back to the time of shabby VFX ruled

It is year 2015 and it won't be wrong if I call it the year of SS Rajamouli's Baahubali. The Rana Daggubati-Prabhas star worked wonders at box office not just because of engaging story telling but also cos of some mind blowing visual effects.

And before we could twirl our moustache in pride for finally being on par with Hollywood in terms of CGI effects, I beg you take a look at the VFX used in these few Indian films which will make you go WTF! I am not talking about some old miserable films of early 2000's like Jaani Dushman or Abra Ka Dabra. I am talking about the excruciatingly bad VFX used in few Indian films of recent times, and some of them star renowned stars in it.

Krrish 3

The third installment of Hrithik Roshan's super hero franchise, Krrish 3, made insane money at box office. While people enjoyed the film for Hrithik's high flying antics, they somehow preferred to ignore the over-the-top melodrama and some rather shabby piece of VFX work. For example take a look at this video below in which Krrish fights the band of mutants, who have been shamelessly aped from X-Men series. There are numerous scenes in the film like this, where one could easily tell where the VFX work stuck out like sore thumb.

Kochadaiiyaan

Superstar Rajinikanth and Deepika Padukone coming together for India's first motion capture animated film created helluva buzz around Kochadaiiyaan. But the end result was nothing short of a disaster, as what we saw was caricatures of Rajini and Deepika moving mechanically on the big screen. In fact, the CGI work of the film was so bad that the animated version of Deepika's gorgeous face looked like that of an ape. Unlike Krrish 3, Kochadaiiyaan failed inspite of Rajini's presence thanks to bad VFX.

Creature 3D

"The Creature in this movie has more screen time than dinosaurs had in Jurassic Park", boasted Vikram Bhatt. And how we wished that there was less of that sloppily CGI created monster, ridiculously named as "Bhramarakshas". Not that Bipasha and Imran Abbas' acting was less painful to look at, but every time when the creature made it to the big screen it made me cringe at the bad VFX work that has gone behind its making.

Welcome To Karachi

The mind numbing comedy starring Arshad Warsi and Jacky Bhagnani deserves a special mention for its laughable graphics work. There is a scene in the film where the idiotic duo partying on the boat realise that they are engulfed in the middle of a storm. And the way rough sea is depicted in that scene will leave you in splits. But that's not all, you have to wait and see how toy like the boat looks when it capsizes on the CGI created sea. The only thing that was laughable in Welcome to Karachi was the VFX work and not its idiotic jokes.

Rudhramadevi

I know the film has not yet released and I shouldn't criticise a film before watching, but just one glance at its trailer will let you know how shambolic the graphics is in the film. Despite of big Telugu stars like Allu Arjun, Anushka Shetty and Rana Daggubati being a part of it, Rudhramadevi is pathetic when it comes to VFX. The CGI work used to create the sets, the battle scenes, the arena sequences and the aerial shots is EXTREMELY shoddy.

So let me know in the comments if you agree with me...
