Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer Manto has hit the screens now, after much wait, and the film deservingly has been receiving appreciation from all around. Directed by actor-filmmaker Nandita Das, Manto also Rasika Duggal and is based on Pakistani author and writer with Nawaz portraying the titular role. The film has been in the pipeline for a long time now and just got released. And elated with the jubilant response to the film, Nawazuddin says that he would be happy to do a film like Manto again without taking remuneration and if required he will produce it. Nawazuddin Siddiqui took to Twitter and posted a message about this.
"If given an opportunity, I would love to do #MANTO yet again & this time also for free, instead would pay from my pocket to make it happen; because today I realised that #MANTO is still way ahead of our time.[sic]" tweeted Nawazuddin.
Saadat Hassan Manto is one of the most celebrated writers in Hindi and Urdu. His short stories are held in high regard by many aspiring writers and are considered to be a benchmark. Speaking about the film, director Nandita Das had recently said that it is way ahead of its times. "I had read Manto in college, but it was only in 2012 that I started reading his essays when the centenary celebrations started and a lot more came out about him. That’s when I realized that he is so relevant today. Whether it was about identity, you know how we are divided in the name of nationality, religion and caste," Nandita had said recently.
